Freemasonry is the world’s oldest and largest fraternal society. There are five million members globally, about 75,000 in Australasia and over 9,000 here in Queensland. Five hundred Freemasons in over two dozen groups, called Lodges, make up the District Grand Lodge of North Queensland. The District Grand Lodge (NQ) extends from Proserpine to Ingham and as far west as Mt Isa.

Freemasons practice the qualities of brotherly love, charity and truth. We all believe in a Supreme Being called the Great Architect of the Universe. We uphold moral and social values in our daily lives. We are not a church or religious institute, though our rituals do have spiritual elements that are compatible with every faith.

As a Freemason, you will embark on a journey to improve yourself, be a good citizen and promote humanitarian causes. Freemasons in Queensland have been behind numerous projects, such as the Freemasons Leukaemia Village at Townsville General Hospital, the Masonic Chair in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Queensland and James Cook University’s Masonic Care Queensland Nursing Bursary. These accomplishments are only possible through Masonic teamwork and camaraderie, regardless of background, social standing or culture
